Youth Ministry

Our Children and Youth

Children of Promise

Our Children & Youth Ministry is committed to nurturing the next generation of faithful leaders through a comprehensive program that equips children and youth for success in college and beyond. We provide a foundation of Bible truths, Christian values, confidence building, and strong character development that prepares young people to thrive in all aspects of life.

From our Nursery Ministry for infants through our S.A.T. Preparation Program for high school students, we offer age-appropriate opportunities for spiritual growth, academic excellence, and leadership development. Our ministry includes engaging Children's Church services, dynamic Youth Fellowship gatherings, and quarterly community service outings that teach the importance of giving back.

We believe in learning through experience and celebration. Throughout the year, we host seasonal social events, birthday celebrations in the gym every fifth Sunday, and powerful productions for Christmas and Black History Month that build public speaking skills, cultural awareness, and biblical understanding.

Our Nursery

add later
Our Nursery Ministry provides a safe, nurturing environment for infants through pre-K children during worship services. With age-appropriate activity stations, engaging books, and caring volunteers, we create a welcoming space where our youngest members can begin their faith journey. We're committed to serving families and helping even our littlest congregants feel at home at Providence.

Children's Church

add later
Children's Church welcomes elementary students (grades K-5) for engaging, age-appropriate worship experiences on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of each month. Through interactive lessons, we help children build strong Christian character, planting seeds of faith that will grow throughout their lives. Our goal is to equip children with Bible truths and confidence as they develop a personal relationship with God.

Youth Fellowship provides middle and high school students with opportunities to connect, grow in faith, and develop leadership skills. Meeting on 3rd and 4th Sundays, our youth engage in meaningful discussions and fellowship. On 1st and 2nd Sundays, they serve as greeters, worship leaders, and photographers, building confidence and responsibility while actively contributing to our church community. We're dedicated to preparing young people for success in college and beyond through Christian values and character development.

Girl Scouts

add later
With around 70 girls spanning kindergarten through 12th grade, our Girl Scout troops develop skills in leadership, outdoors, STEM, interviewing, writing, and more. Service projects teach community support, with troops volunteering at Backpack Beginnings, Goodwill, Urban Ministries, YWCA, Bennett College, Candlefest, Folk Fest, March of Dimes, and our church. Financial literacy is taught through cookie sales and fall product campaigns, while new national programming helps troops address relevant issues like mental health and self-care. We're especially proud that more than three-fourths of our Girl Scouts come from outside our congregation, and all but one of our eight troop leaders grew up as Girl Scouts right here at Providence.

Teaching and Educating Men of Black Origin
Teaching and Educating Men of Black Origin

Our newest program, TEMBO, serves boys ages 8-18 with focused leadership development and mentorship. Connected to the original chapter for Black male college student leaders at Chicago State University, our Greensboro chapter provides young men with the tools, guidance, and support they need to become confident, educated leaders in their communities.

At the heart of our ministry is our unique stairstep mentoring program, where college students mentor high schoolers, who mentor middle schoolers, who mentor elementary students—creating a supportive community where every young person is both invested in and investing in others. This intergenerational approach ensures that our youth don't just learn Christian values, but live them out by pouring into the lives of those coming up behind them.

Through this holistic approach, we're not just teaching children and youth—we're equipping them to be confident, compassionate leaders who will make a lasting difference in their communities and the world.

SAT Teachers in Training
Our S.A.T. Preparation Program (grades 7-12) meets virtually on Saturday mornings, offering comprehensive test preparation led by experienced educators. Open to the community—not just church members—this program reflects our commitment to equipping youth for college success. By providing quality academic support alongside our spiritual formation programs, we help students unlock doors to higher education while building the confidence and character needed to thrive in their future endeavors.
