Music Ministry

The Sound of Worship

At Providence Baptist Church, music is more than a performance—it is a sacred conversation, a living testimony to the rich, resilient musical traditions of the Black church. Our choirs represent a powerful lineage of musical expression that transcends generations, weaving together spirituals, gospel, traditional hymns, and contemporary praise in a tapestry of sound that honors our heritage while embracing musical innovation. We are intentional about celebrating the full spectrum of Black sacred music, creating a vibrant, intergenerational worship experience that speaks to the depth and diversity of our spiritual journey.

From the soulful harmonies of our Spiritual Choir to the robust voices of our Male Chorus and the eloquent arrangements of our Sanctuary Choir and Vocal Ensemble, we are committed to preserving and performing the musical traditions that have sustained our community through centuries of struggle and celebration. Our music is a form of resistance, a declaration of joy, and a profound act of worship that connects us to our ancestors while reaching toward a future of hope, unity, and big love.

Sanctuary Choir

Established in the mid-1960s, the Sanctuary Choir of Providence Baptist Church has been a vital musical ministry led by dedicated directors like Dr. Patricia J. Price and Mrs. Levone Tobin-Scott. Since its early days, the choir has brought together talented musicians and vocalists to enhance worship services, singing anthems and gospel hymns with passion and spiritual devotion. Through the years, the choir has continued to be a powerful voice of praise, touching the hearts of congregants and celebrating their faith through music. The Sanctuary Choir leads worship every first Sunday and rehearses on Thursday evenings.

Spiritual Choir

In 1997, the Providence Spiritual Choir emerged as a vibrant musical ministry, bringing together a dedicated group of eight women passionate about praising God through song. From its inception, the choir has been committed to uplifting the congregation through powerful spiritual music, performing both traditional and contemporary gospel songs. Under the leadership of the former Director Mrs. Juanita Richmond, and former musician the Late Mr. Alex Flemming, the choir consistently offered music that stirred congregants to actively join in the worship with hand clapping and singing. Through the years, they have continued to grow, sharing their faith and touching hearts with their heartfelt musical ministry.  The Spiritual Choir ministers every third Sunday and rehearses Tuesday evenings.

Male Chorus

The Providence Baptist Church Male Chorus was established in the early 1960s under the Pastorate of Rev. Lorenzo Lynch. From humble beginnings, the choir grew to become an integral part of the church's musical ministry. Through the dedicated leadership of the late Dr. Clifford Watkins, the chorus grew and matured and was acclaimed throughout our community for their musicality and vocal styling. Over the decades, the Male Chorus has continued to serve the congregation through music, providing spiritual inspiration on second Sundays.
